Around SBN: Jays Stun Rays With Walkoff Granny Bar-right-arrows

Some linkaliciousness

Just some things to throw out there...

Richard Justice thinks the Rangers made a great hire, and thinks Nolan Ryan will be hands-off with Jon Daniels.

Evan Grant has some more notes from yesterday after the Ryan press conference, touching on, among other things, Omar Beltre and the efforts by the Rangers to get successful former players involved with the team...

Rob Neyer talks about the best five catchers of the next five years, and has Jarrod Saltalamacchia in the mix at the #5 spot...

Curt Schilling is out until the ASB, maybe longer, with a partial rotator cuff tear...and when you are 41 and have a tear in your rotator cuff, your team probably shouldn't be counting on you for much of anything.

Erik Bedard boarded a flight for Seattle this morning, and is supposed to be given a physical this afternoon, which should be the final piece before the Baltimore/Mariners deal can be announced tomorrow.

And lost in the Ryan stuff from yesteday is T.R. Sullivan's Around the Horn piece on the Ranger relievers.

a breakdown of the AL West...

Rangers behind the A's?
"Still, they're well behind the Angels, A's and Mariners here, and again explain why the AL West is still too big for them to contend in."

I'm sorry, but that just shows that he did no research.  The Rangers aren't going to win anything this year, but the A's are staring down the barrel of 100 losses.

ha...
...i think they did an alphabetized break-down.

by oc on Feb 7, 2008 5:41 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Yes they did
But the quote he put in his post clearly shows that the writer thinks the Rangers are the 4th best team in the AL West.
Oh Man!!!!

The Exorcist remake is being filmed at Miles house during the Super Bowl. Starring Miles as Regan and Sharky as the Priest.

stupid espn insider
Anyone want to summarize Neyer's comments on Salty?

by JBImaknee on Feb 7, 2008 5:33 PM CST   0 recs

Not much
Neyer just lists Salty, Soto, and Napoli as the 3 candidates to be the 5th best catcher of the next five years.

I'll be pretty disappointed if Salty isn't considerably better than those 2.

Juevos Daniels: biggest stones in the business.

also mentions
Ianetta and Clement as being in the mix for that fifth spot.

Basically he names the top 4 catchers, then throws out names of every young guy that hasn't proven to suck for the last spot.

I think Dioner Navarro will be better than several of the names he mentions though.

he said
who's #5?  maybe salty (if he sticks behind the plate).

thats it.  I think I was more wordy than Neyer

Neyer
He thinks he's cute but he's hesitant to go all the way so soon.  He mentioned his sense of humor and his hot body but he fears that Salty has his eye on a more athletic suitor.  A gym teacher perhaps.

You need to get espn insider.  You are really missing out on some good stuff.

Warner Madrigal...
...anybody have a clue what's going to happen with him?

by oc on Feb 7, 2008 6:01 PM CST   0 recs

Omar Beltre
That's pissing me off. The US Gov can throw it's weight around all the time, Congress acts like it has nothing to do but worry about baseball, and yet those guys languish there.

Come on! Fake marriages to get residency are the things of sitcoms and romantic comedies! It's not a crime, it's hilaaaaarious.

Remember Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.

Can we trade him?
Is it allowed to trade players (with their permission of course) to Japan?  Say the Japanese would let him in, then wouldn't one of their teams like to have him (especially if he is good enough to be on the ML roster here).  They could send us one of their stars who is about to leave, similar to the way that Dice-K was posted here?

I thought I saw something about the Rangers thinking of letting them go to Japan - this way we'd get something back in return...

Enter Terrific Plan
I agree with the 'It's not a crime' position.  What happens if Omar actually enters into a legitimate marriage with a US citizen?  Do they let him in then?

If so, let's hook him up.  And in the context of this conversation, 'legitimate marriage' means 'slightly more convincing fake marriage'.  There have got to be some lonely, homely, female Ranger fans.

Woops
Meant to reply to WyoRanger.  Also, 'lonely, homely, female Ranger fans' may be slightly redundant.  Carry on, all.

Saltalamacchia
Sickels will discuss him in a post Saturday:
