Community projections starting today

Okay, folks...it is about time to crank up community projections again.

For those who aren't familiar with it, the idea behind community projections is to have all of us here make a projection as to what guys who should be regulars this season will do.

For positional players, we want average, OBP, slugging, and plate appearances, in this format:  .XXX/.XXX/.XXX XXX

For starters, we want wins, innings, Ks, and ERA (we didn't do Ks last year, but I figure we'll add them this year).

For ease of tabulating, I'd rather folks not add in stuff like homers, RBIs, etc., and I'd rather not have people comment on other folks' projections within the thread.  If you want to discuss the projections, feel free to open up a diary.

At the end of spring training, I'll have Ben add them all up and compare our projections to some other projections that are out there, and then, at the end of the season, see how we did compared to the computers.

Any questions?

Commenting on projections
Commenting, or asking questions, about the projections makes them more difficult to tabulate?

When someone projects a .550 slugging percentage for David Murphy, I'd like to be able to ask them why.

Pedro: "I wasn't cockfighting, I just have a wide stance."

Yeah...
it does, to a certain extent.  If everyone follows the format and there's no commenting in the thread, it definitely makes it a little easier to tabulate.
"I know you're a bit dense but no, it doesn't. Obviously lying isn't a problem for me."

too bad
Then we can't make fun of each other. Like when Chris predicted that Soriano would have a .725 OPS after he got traded to the Nationals. That's the fun part!

I generally try to do...
...a cut-and-paste, to eliminte transcription errors.

That's harder to do with a lot of discussion in the thread.

It is also harder to cross-check and make sure the number of entries on the spreadsheet equals the number of entries on the blog, since you can't just match up the number of comments to the number of lines on your spreadsheet.

It would make sense...
possibly in the future if you were able to use OPS instead of OBP and Slugging.  puts those two categories in 1.  Of course, i'm not sure how all the other projections work, but I thought I would offer up the suggestion.

hey Ben
A request: Can you include the standard deviation for each projection again? In some cases that was the most interesting bit of information, to see how much or little consensus there was about a given player.
