Nelson Cruz qualifying offer: Rangers will extend qualifying offer to outfielder

Jon Daniels confirms the Rangers will be making the qualifying offer to free agent outfielder Nelson Cruz

Evan Grant has a blog post up with quotes from Jon Daniels, where Daniels confirms that the Rangers will extend a qualifying offer to free agent outfielder Nelson Cruz.

Cruz will have until November 11 or November 12 (depending on whether the World Series ends today or tomorrow) to decide whether to accept the one year qualifying offer, or reject it.

If Cruz accepts the qualifying offer, he will be under contract for the 2014 season at $14.1 million.

If he rejects the qualifying offer, he can sign with any team, including the Rangers.  If he signs with another team, the team signing Cruz will lose a 2014 draft pick, and the Rangers will receive a compensatory pick in the supplemental first round of the 2014 draft.

Cruz, 33, had a .266/.327/.506 line in 456 plate appearances last year before missing games 113-162 of the regular season due to a suspension for his involvement with the Biogenesis clinic.  Cruz was activated for Game 163 against Tampa Bay, but went 0 for 4 in that Ranger loss.

Grant writes that Cruz is expected to reject the qualifying offer and seek a multi-year deal.
