Tom Hicks: How Not To Win Friends And Influence People (part II)
Tom Hicks chat was more offensive than charming APR 19 2008 BY TONY BARRETT, LIVERPOOL ECHO * CATCH up with the all the latest comment from star columnists, journalists and fans on our new site, LFC Banter THOSE who studied GCSE history may be aware of President Frankli n D Roosevelt’s fireside chats. A staple in American homes from 1933-45, Roosevelt would conduct radio interviews in a homely setting to give the impression that although he was a politician he was also a human being and a family man who could be trusted to do right thing by the public even during the most testing of times. On Thursday, Tom Hicks tried to reawaken the spirit of FDR when he did his very own fireside chat for the benefit of Liverpool’s long suffering fans. It needs only a glance at the myriad of Reds related forums and websites to discover that Hicks’ efforts failed – and miserably at that. From the stage managed props – including an LFC cup which was so untouched it looked like it had been delivered from the club shop that very day – to the Liverpool gear that Hicks donned in every shot, the whole set up could not have been more forced had Hicks had the cast of Carousel singing You’ll Never Walk Alone in the background. There was even a pot shot at Everton from the star of the show just to make sure no-one was left in any doubt that the gallery was being played to with all the gusto of a politician wanting to prove he really is a nice family man after all, just days after being caught in a compromising position on Hampstead Heath. "My family loves Liverpool," said Hicks, in front of a couple of teenagers who tried but failed not to look incredibly bored as they watched daddy’s UK franchise beating Rovers of Blackburn on a TV so big it made the Anfield pitch look lifesize. If this was a charm offensive then it seems hardly anyone was charmed but almost everyone was offended. Trying too hard is never going to be an impressive sight and whoever was the brains behind this misguided operation missed the mark by quite some distance. And it no doubt left DIC – whom Hicks derided as "masters of spin" – rubbing their hands in glee at the biggest own goal since Djimi Traore’s muddled dancing feet knocked Liverpool out of the FA Cup. If Hicks really wants to win the Liverpool fans over he could start by acting like someone who has the best interests of the club at heart because that is something which has been conspicuous only by its absence ever since he took ownership of the club alongside George Gillett. Pledges which he made on his opening day in control have not been kept and the Texan has washed more dirty linen in public than anyone in his position should ever do. That is why the majority of Liverpool’s fans are still of the opinion that it is Hicks and not Rick Parry who is the biggest problem at the club, even though many of them feel that time should be called on the chief executive’s time at the club also. And seeing as Hicks is so taken by the influence of FDR, maybe he should consider one of the wartime president’s most telling quotes. "Confidence," he opined, "thrives on honesty, on honour, on the sacredness of obligations, on faithful protection and on unselfish performance. Without them it cannot live." There is precious little confidence in Hicks at Anfield at the moment. The time has come for him to ask himself why – not blame others.source: http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-fc/liverpool-fc-news/2008/04/19/tom-hicks-chat-was-more-offensive-than-charming-100252-20785975 Tracking Tom Hicks, he had another PR debacle, Saturday for his Scouser Propaganda Campaign. His efforts to appease our comrades and poor fellows who support a different Hicks owned club are always interesting to keep track of. One thing is certain, the rangers are certainly not 1st priority in his sports ownership world. i think thats a very good thing, he did the same thing here, only no1 cared.

Ugliest Tom Hicks Pic ever
(plus he's wearing every1's favorite angels, i mean ranger red hat)

Dont forget to vote!!
i dont care who you vote for, but lack of political involvement is how we've gotten where we are in this country. Your boss has to give you time to vote. take off early and go vote. vote republican or vote democrat i couldnt care less. just show that texas' say in the political process cannot be silenced.

Attention Hicks Family: these arent Rangers fans (greatness)
Ok so im a footie guy, and a Liverpool supporter and was way before Tom Hicks bought the club and immediately called them a "franchise" (good call heh). Anyway Lil' Tom decided he was gonna stop by a pub after the game and get the true feelings from the fans. He chose Sandon, where the most extreme hooligans i mean fans gather before and after LFC matches. Its the birthplace of LFC and well, lets just say it isnt RBiA.
anyway read the whole story, its gottan be the greatest Hicks Moment in History. 7 would be proud. It also makes me wish we had fans like that. They dont take crap from no1.
"All of a sudden, his smile was replaced by a grimace of concern.
And as the volume was cranked up still further by the swollen crowd, Tommy's facial expression quickly changed.
It appeared to say "Get Me Out Of Here" to his bodyguards.
At least his desire to evacuate showed he had something in common with the fans who, by that stage, had adapted one of their favourite protest songs to inform him, not too politely, that the "lying b****d" should get out of their pub."
"At best, it was a well meaning attempt to build some bridges on Hicks junior's part.
At worst, it was yet another failure to understand English football culture and proof of the failure of Liverpool's owners to grasp just how unpopular they have become."

Signed and Broken and a Contender?
Jenning: Surgery in August on torn elbow ligament. No way he is ready for ST. takes a year to recover at least.
Fukumori: Hurt last season, recovering from injury. old. unproven.
Milton Bradley: Torn ACL in August or September. 10 months to recover, 1 year to fully recover.
What the hell is going on? The rangers dont actually think these guys will be difference makers?
When do u guys think Bradley and Jennings are 100%? it wont be this season. Why sign these guys if we arent contending and they wont be healthy for the season. I'll give Fukumori the benefit of the doubt, but Jenning and Bradley? there is no way on earth those guys can be 100% this season.
what is the purpose?

OT: One less Redskins DB to worry about.
seems shawn taylor got blasted last night, i know you guys are wondering how such a class act could have this come up. I truly hope for the best with the guy, i hope he makes it, he is in critical care and lost a ton of blood
http://www.local10.com/news/14692782/detail.html
cowboys know the feeling though, we have a safety who i like but he kept getting shot, so we had to replace him with a safety who got stabbed.
anyway, one less redskin secondary guy to worry about. hope he lives and can carry on a full life.

Micheal Main 8/20
5 IP 3 H 1 R 1 ER 1 BB 9SO 1 HR
looks like main totally dominated. nice to see him adjusting and succeeding at the next level. with a bit of success and luck that puts him on schedule for a full season or slightly less of high A next season. AA and a bit of AAA in '09. Im getting ahead of myself, but the kid is impressive. also thinking about main in high A next season and beaven in AZL is frustrating. i'd say beaven set himself up for a full season behind main in the long run. disappointing considering he was bragging about the majors in 3 seasons. not a beaven rap, i like the kid more than most. but to think we can see main in high A next season possibly, while Beaven is in SS A ball makes me realize how big the signing quickly factor is. If main keeps it up we're looking at 3 years, 4 tops till he fighting for a spot.
awesome!
9/1 k/bb very nice. lone run was a solo bomb.
