OT: Kellerman vs. Phillips

LOL. I usually post something like this in a thread, but today's argument was CLASSIC. Steve Phillips is trying to argue with Max, but of course, fails. Then he goes the route of saying stats don't play baseball, sabermetrics is stupid, blah blah blah... and, the whole time, Max is as cool as the other side of the pillow.

Anyways, check out this podcast.

It's the 7/30 podcast.  It starts about at 9:40 and they're talking about relief pitching.

Thoughts after listening to it?

Legendary

Greatest ending to a Rangers game I have seen in a very long time.

Josh ain't scared, so why should you be?:

Josh1_medium

K-Rod trying to throw a curve to Josh....uhh, please:

Josh2_medium

Heh...K-Rod doing all he can to fool Josh with a leg kick and trying to go parallel to the ground. Sorry, son, nothing will help you here:

Josh3_medium

Yeah, at this point, K-Rod is thinking, "OOOPS!":

Josh4_medium

Gone.

Josh7_medium

"Yay! Woo hoo! I'm king of the world!!" - says Laird.

"Don't touch me there!" - says Madrigal.

Jamey Wright is about to go all Miles on someone.

(MY looks exhausted here):

Josh10_medium

for AJM.

I Am Beast. Here me ROAAAAR!

Game Over.

We win.

Pitching by committee tonight

Per Evan Grant

Warner Madrigal will start. No Michael Ballard. Don't think Madrigal can pitch more than three innings.

Not sure on the reasoning for deciding on the bullpen over Ballard, but we'll get you an explanation soon enough.

And a little REM to take up some space:

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

JD on Max Kellerman Show

Probably one of the best podcasts out there. I really wish we had a Max Kellerman type personality here in the D/FW or even Houston area...

Anyways, Max interviews Jon Daniels (sorry if this has already been posted). JD talks about the Ponson release, trading deadline (looks like he's going after a MRP), and the Chris Young/Adrian Gonzalez trade (Max is a straight shooter here). A lot of interesting stuff, check it out...

And, for those who think golf is not a sport (dirkatron), you will love, LOVE the first part of the podcast.

Of course, you will need iTunes.

it's the 6/19 one...

Hours before the Draft

And some final Mocks are up:

Keith Law

11. Texas -- Aaron Crow, RHP, Missouri

Texas could pass on Crow due to his cost and take Christian Friedrich, but the Rangers haven't been afraid to shell out for better players, and they've got Crow rated over Friedrich and Martin, should he get here.

Jonathan Mayo

11. Texas Rangers: Aaron Crow, RHP, University of Missouri
Crow is not a name that's been mentioned here -- it's been all about Shooter Hunt, Andrew Cashner, Aaron Hicks, Gerrit Cole and Ethan Martin, mostly -- but it wasn't considered a possibility that Crow would be available. They've wanted a good arm if it was there for them and Crow certainly fits the bill while the Rangers have been a team that hasn't worried about signability in the past.
Last projection: Andrew Cashner

Jim Callis

11. TEXAS. Despite their ever-present need for pitching, the thought of Hosmer at the Ballpark in Arlington is mighty tempting for the Rangers. They'd also be thrilled if Crow fell this far, and if he doesn't, they'd choose between the top high school pitchers (righthander Ethan Martin from Georgia and Cole) and Friedrich.

Projected Pick: ETHAN MARTIN, rhp, Stephens County HS, Toccoa, Ga.

Kevin Goldstein

11. Texas Rangers

The Rangers would be pleasantly surprised to see one of the elite college players fall to them. Barring such a plummet, there’s been some talk of them selecting a college closer, as well as a late surge for high school pitcher Ethan Martin, one of the more athletic and projectable arms in the draft. In this scenario, Crow is just far too good a talent to let him slide any further, and as always seems to be the case, Texas needs pitching.
Selection: Aaron Crow, RHP, Missouri

And mine? I'm sure no one really cares, but, Aaron Hicks...

[Note by Longhorn, 06/05/08 10:12 AM CDT ] Just saw in Jamey's e-mail that Evan Grant has the Rangers taking Aaron Crow and TR Sullivan has them taking Shooter Hunt.

More on the Benson incident

Tony Patch, who was not a passenger on Benson's boat, told WXAN-TV in Austin that he saw LCRA police "manhandling" Benson.

"As they were taking him up the dock, they stopped. He said, 'I am fine, I can continue walking,' and they put their legs behind his knees and knocked him over his knees and started hog-carrying him," Patch said, according to the report.

"They ended up -- I don't know why -- but laid him on his back, I heard him say, 'Please don't pepper-spray me, please don't pepper-spray me,'" Patch said, according to the report. "It was uncalled for, it was ludicrous, no point for it."

I'm interested where this goes, just updating the story. I'll leave my opinions out of this for now because obviously I'm wrong and everyone else is right.

Sounds like Carlos Lee.

and he's doing it already at only 25...

"For $150 million, you'd like to at least see him run a ball out. I watched him for a week, and I think there was one ball all week where he tried to extend himself. That was a double-play ball, and he was still like 4.8 [seconds] getting down the line. On a routine ground ball, he's 5.2, maybe 5.1. It's ridiculous to even pull the clock out."
