Rangers announce Rogers won't be back

The Rangers have announced they won't be offering a contract to Kenny Rogers for 2006.

The announcement came via press release. Not too surprising. I do wonder if anyone bothered to let Rogers or his agent know, before issuing the release, or if they preferred to let them find out via the press.

I don't really see the point of making this announcement now, in this way. I'm not sure what the team accomplishes, other than symbolically telling Rogers not to let the door hit him on the way out.

Management has made it clear for a while that they didn't want Rogers back in 2006. Personally, when you are talking about a guy who has had success pitching at TBIA, and who has wanted to pitch here, I think it is a mistake to just shut the door on him. And while, as I've said before, I think Kenny has handled himself poorly this season, I also think the organization's treatment of him has been shoddy, to say the least.
