Cubs give Eyre ridiculous money

New, 2 comments

The Chicago Cubs have signed Scott Eyre, and the deal is reportedly worth $11 million over 2 years.

Eyre is a lefty specialist. He's had more innings pitched than games just once since 2000...and then was in 2002, when the spread was less than 5 innings.

There's supposedly an option year involved, and so maybe the reports are wrong, and the $11 million includes the option year.

Either way, though, this is a truly unfathomable deal. That's way too much to pay for a lefty specialist.

Oh, and Eyre used to be a Rangers farmhand, so I guess we can carp about how he's another pitcher we gave away. Granted, it was over a decade ago when he was traded, but still...
