Gillick to be Philly g.m.

Former Toronto and Seattle general manager Pat Gillick is reportedly to be announced as the new Philadelphia general manager tomorrow.

Uninspiring pick. Gillick seems to be in the same boat as John Hart, a guy who had success in the 90s with a team he built, and who seemed to lose interest in his most recent g.m. stint.

Gillick is 68, so isn't exactly a long-term solution. One would think that the Phillies would be installing someone in with Gillick as his assistant to be groomed to take over the job when Gillick retires, since he can't be expected to hang around more than a couple of years.
