Jayson Stark is reporting that the Rangers no longer have the top bid out there for Josh Beckett. Rather, Stark says, Boston and another "mystery team" -- possibly the Dodgers -- have stronger bids right now.
I'm not sure what to make of this. I tend to believe that either the Marlins are trying to goose the Rangers' to up their offer, and pay some of Blalock's salary for the next three years, or else the Marlins have cold feet and want to back out of the deal with the Rangers altogether.
Either way, the chances of the deal going down with the Rangers appear a lot slimmer.
