Why lawyers like baseball

At the Newberg Minor League Report Day at TBIA, I was talking to someone who observed that both Jamey Newberg and myself -- two of the more prolific amateur Rangers bloggers/writers -- are lawyers, along with quite a few of the regular posters on Jamey's board, and asked why so many lawyers seem to be drawn to baseball.

I stuttered and stammered and didn't really come up with much of a response.

But then I saw this article in the New York Times, which explains it thusly:

Why are so many Washington figures, including a long list of Supreme Court justices, so devoted to the game? Easy, said Carter G. Phillips, a Washington lawyer and an old softball teammate of Judge Alito: "Baseball's the perfect sport for nerds."

I couldn't have put it better myself...
