The USA Today's Bob Nightengale has some notes from the winter meetings...
This includes two Rangers items, although I'm calling bullspit on both of them...
First, "according to a Rangers official," the Dodgers are the leading candidate to land Alfonso Soriano, with the Rangers getting "two top prospects." While I think that the Dodgers may be interested in Soriano, the Nightengale blurb smells like something planted by the Rangers front office to stir up more interest in Soriano elsewhere. I can't believe that the Dodgers are really likely to give up two top prospects for Soriano, at this point.
Secondly, the Rangers supposedly have "have expressed strong interest in acquiring free agent catcher Ramon Hernandez." I don't see how that makes any sense at all, particularly given that Hernandez supposedly had a 3 year, $21 million offer on the table from the Mets at one point. Someone else suggested that it may be that Nightengale get mixed up, upon hearing that the Rangers were interested in Hernandez, and thought they were referring to Ramon instead of Roberto Hernandez (whom the S-T listed as a possible Rangers target this morning).
