Kathleen O'Brien suggests that Kam Loe and Juan Dominguez could be this year's Frankie Francisco and Carlos Almanzar. As I've said before, I definitely want to see them get the first shot at the role, to see if we can try to avoid overpaying for a Dave Weathers or a Dave Mlicki or someone like that. With Loe and Dominguez pitching well, Joaquin Benoit close to returning, and Ron Mahay seemingly getting his groove back on a rehab assignment in Oklahoma, the pen could be back to pretty solid before too long.
While I've long thought Gerry Fraley was the king of pointless nastiness and negativity, the L.A. Times' T.J. Simers has had me reconsidering...and his ridiculous, sophomoric column on Jeff Kent today is a perfect example of why...
The Houston Chronicle has an amusing piece on weird off-the-field injuries baseball players have suffered...
Vince Sinisi, continuing his comeback from last season's devastating broken arm/staph infection, is hitting .336/.406/.538 after last night's 2 for 5 outing. The most encouraging thing is that, after being a punch-and-judy hitter in the early stages of his comeback, Sinisi's power seems to be surging now, as he hit his 4th homer of the season last night. All four of his homers have been in June, and his ISO is up to .202.
As a 23 year old, Sinisi is old to be in high-A, although he's only there right now because the broken arm cost him an entire season. I'd expect that Sinisi should be called up to Frisco at some point soon after the ASB for the Texas League.
