On Bret Boone

With Bret Boone being relegated to a backup role for now, and with him looking, at age 36, like he is probably close to done, Derek Zumsteg takes a look at Boone's career in the Seattle P-I.

Zumsteg quotes Hargrove as calling Boone "a player who belongs in the Hall of Fame," a description which I find absurd. Zumsteg reluctantly concedes that Boone isn't a HOFer...given that Boone has had two great seasons late in his career (which were tainted by rumors about how he improved so much), and otherwise was a pretty pedestrian player, I'm not sure how anyone can make the HOF case for him.

Particularly as long as Bobby Grich and Lou Whitaker are on the outside, looking in...
