McDougall up, Allen DFA'd

With Soriano still slowed by his hamstring problem, the Rangers have called up AAA utility infielder Marshall McDougall, and designated Chad Allen for assignment.

McDougall was a Rule 5 draftee selected from Cleveland in 2002, with the Rangers trading pitcher Derrick Van Dusen to the Indians in exchange for the right to retain McDougall in the organization without keeping him on the 25 man roster all season.

He's been a solid organizational soldier for the last couple of years, playing at both second and third base for Frisco and Oklahoma, and filling in at shortstop when need be.

He should be a nice utility infielder, and probably represents an upgrade over DeRosa at that position. Once Soriano is back to 100%, I would like to see McDougall stick, even if it means letting DeRosa go.

Chad Allen is unlikely to be claimed, and will probably fill in in the Oklahoma or Frisco outfield.
