Reaction to the Mayberry pick...

The initial reviews are in on the Rangers' decision to pick Stanford 1B/OF John Mayberry, Jr., with their first round choice, and they are not real good...

Tim Cowlishaw doesn't like it, although mainly, it appears, because he thinks it is signaling the organization's willingness to part with Mark Teixeira (something that I think is a pretty extreme stretch...)

Gerry Fraley doesn't like it because Mayberry's swing is too long and he can't handle the inside fastball. Oh, and Stanford players are too uppity...

The best criticism of the pick probably came from Jamey Newberg, who, in his newsletter today, did a very diplomatic job of walking through the concerns relating to Mayberry's college performance, and the questions about whether he was really the best player available when the Rangers picked...
