The Nix situation

Laynce Nix is now out for the season...

It turns out that the collision with the wall last season resulted in a torn labrum in his right shoulder, which has just now been discovered. So Nix will go under the knife to have the labrum repaired, putting him on the shelf the rest of the way.

I'd take this as a sign that the team feels they aren't getting back into the race...otherwise, one would think they would have asked Nix to forego the surgery for a while, so he could come back this year.

It will be interesting to see how the team handles him over the offseason...is he going to be asked to play winter ball? Will he have his starting job waiting for him this spring? Or will the Rangers look for another centerfielder in the meantime?

Nix has been pretty awful as a major leaguer, and I'd just as soon he spend 2006 in AAA...

Update [2005-7-24 13:45:52 by Adam J. Morris]: -- Scott Lucas pointed out his analysis of Laynce Nix's struggles...he does a great job analyzing the poor offensive performance of Laynce Nix over the past three years...
