This morning's Soriano stuff

Kathleen O'Brien is pessimistic in the S-T today about a Soriano deal getting done with the Mets, although she does say that the Mets are offering Mike Cameron, which I find intriguing...I'm a huge Cameron fan...

O'Brien also says that the Orioles want whoever takes Ponson to assume most of his contract, which is ludicrous.

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune says that Terry Ryan is still in on Alfonso Soriano. Minnesota has some nice chips that they could dangle, so a Twins offer could be enticing...

The Bergen Record mentions Soriano's close relationship with Mets manager Willie Randolph as a factor that could push the Mets to get a deal done, as does New York Newsday...

Meanwhile, the Newark Star-Ledger is also reporting that Soriano got a call telling him to pack his bags, he's being traded, only to then get told the deal had hit a snag. Heilman and Petit are the names mentioned by the S-L...

Update [2005-7-28 17:27:18 by Adam J. Morris]: -- Those of you coming over from the Jacob Luft story might want to check out this entry, which explains in a little more detail the financial ramifications of keeping Soriano, and why the Rangers have a fiscal motivation to move him now, rather than bring him back.
