No news on Teixeira contract, Ponson, Soriano...

Evan Grant's notes column for Thursday morning is primarily about there not being any news...

The Rangers and Teixeira apparently want to talk about a long-term deal, but they've decided to do it after the season:

"We expressed interest to his agent [Scott Boras]," Hicks said. "Rather than try to do it in a brief window during the season, we thought it would be best for everybody to revisit things after the season. I told Mark these will be very important negotiations to us."

This could be spinning from Hicks, but waiting until after the season does make sense, and is pretty common. This is actually fairly encouraging, since it is the first I've heard that both sides are interested in doing a long-term deal, and are ready to talk turkey. Hopefully, Hicks is sincere about the importance of the negotiations to the Rangers...

Meanwhile, Grant also says that the Mets aren't willing to give up enough for Soriano -- Hart is apparently demanding Milledge, and two pitchers -- and the Orioles aren't willing to pay enough of Ponson's salary, so there is nothing new on that front.

I think nothing is going to happen until Saturday, maybe Sunday close to the 3 p.m. deadline. And while I think it is more likely than not that Soriano gets dealt, I'm starting to get the vibe like it will be someone else coming in and getting the deal done...Minnesota, perhaps...
