The DMN Ranger newsletter

The new DMN Rangers newsletter is out...

Some really good stuff this week...amazingly, not a single question about Rusty Greer, Justin Thompson, Jeff Zimmerman, or how to get autographs...

A lot of Kenny Rogers stuff, plus things on Kam Loe, Richard Hidalgo, Gerald Laird, Ian Kinsler, and Jason Botts, among others...

My favorite tidbit from the newsletter:

Q: Why aren't members of the media naming the "club official'' who questioned Kenny Rogers' motive for skipping a start or two?

If Kevin Sherrington is saying the opinion was volunteered unsolicited to two different members of the media, surely it wasn't an anonymous opinion spoken strictly off the record. It would seem to beg questions regarding the objectivity of the people covering this story. In any case, there seems to be no shortage of people in Rangers management working hard to upset multiple players on what now must be considered a young but veteran team. Comment?

GRANT: Let me say simply that nobody at The Dallas Morning News had any reason to question whether Kenny Rogers was hurt. Not until chatter all over town started spouting conspiracy theories. In the wake of that, a club official did approach at least two members of the media and spell out his thoughts on why Rogers was missing the start against Los Angeles. And, yes, it very bluntly suggested he was faking an injury.

We simply used some professional etiquette toward the person. The official is not one often quoted in the newspapers, and since it was not a question-and-answer session, I'm guessing that Sherrington believed the official believed he was talking off the record.

And to get to the short answer: It doesn't appear everybody is on the same page in this situation. It appears the fans, media and players all sense that.

An official not often quoted in the newspapers? Hmmmm...I'm guessing, then, that it must be John Hart...

Seriously, though...I'm wondering who it might be. If anyone has any guesses, serious, educated or otherwise, please feel free to post them...
