Rupe, Dickey, Botts, German all called up

New, comments

As Chris Martin mentioned in the game day thread, the Rangers have called up four players from AAA today...

Josh Rupe, R.A. Dickey, Jason Botts, and Esteban German have all been called up, with Nick Regilio moving to the 60 day d.l. to make room for German.

The first three were expected...Dickey is starting tomorrow, and Rupe and Botts are already on the 40 man roster, and were expected to be called up. Neither is likely to get much of a look, though, which is unfortunate in Botts case...I'd like to see him get some regular playing time, either at DH or in the outfield, the rest of the way.

German is the most surprising promotion. Supposedly, Ian Kinsler wasn't getting called up because there was no playing time for him. But German is, like Kinsler, a middle infielder, and with DeRosa and McDougall already in Texas, one would think that there's no playing time for him, either.

So I'm not sure what the point of calling up German is. This could be a pre-cursor to keeping him on the 40 man roster this offseason, which would seem to be a questionable move of a roster spot, and could spell the end of Marshall McDougall's time in Texas.
