Weird comment on Botts, DeRosa

From T.R. Sullivan's notes on Saturday...

Mark DeRosa started in right field for the Rangers, even though Oakland used a right-handed starter. He had been starting against left-handers only, but David Dellucci remains sidelined by a strained calf muscle. Jason Botts had been starting, but Showalter wanted to give DeRosa a chance to play two straight games. He is slated to start today against Barry Zito.

Why on earth does DeRosa need a chance to play two straight games?

Wouldn't it make more sense to let Botts play in several straight games? Or Adrian Gonzalez?

Or maybe dust the cobwebs off Marshall McDougall, and let him play a game, since he's only appeared once in the past month?

I don't get it...
