New Marlins manager Joe Girardi has instituted a "no facial hair" policy for the team.
I've never understood this mentality, or why certain teams feel such a rule does anything other than make the manager look like an obsessive control freak.
Girardi's explanation?
"To me, the idea is to look professional,'' Girardi said Thursday. "I understand it's important for players to have their own style, and I don't have a problem with that. But I want players to look neat and clean.''
So a beard, or even a mustache, means you don't look professional?
How asinine.
