A few notes about the top 50 Rangers...

Alright, I'm going to start the top 50 Rangers series tomorrow morning, with #50...

So folks understand the guidelines, I'm looking at guys who had a significant impact as a Ranger. Guys like Willie Davis, Goose Gossage and Bill Madlock, who were very good players, but who spent little time with Texas, aren't going to make the cut. And obviously, players who haven't yet played for the Rangers, like Kevin Millwood, aren't going to be included.

I've also been grappling with whether players who were very good in Texas for a short period of time should be ranked ahead of guys who weren't that good, but had several decent seasons with the Rangers. I'm tending to reward short, very good performances over longer periods of mediocrity.

I'm looking at overall performance, not just brief bursts or special moments. Thus, someone like Bill Stein (with all the pinch-hits) or David Dellucci (with one of the most memorable hits in Rangers history) aren't going to qualify.

Finally, I'm looking at just a player's time as a Texas Ranger, without considering any performance with the Washington Senators...which really only impacts Frank Howard...
