The Chicago Sun Times is reporting that the Chicago Cubs and Lou Piniella have reached a deal for Piniella to manage the Cubs, with an announcement coming tomorrow.
Pretty interesting that they'd jump on Piniella so quickly...and also a sign that the Cubs are going to be hot-and-heavy in the free agent market this offseason. They aren't going to bring Piniella in to screw around with a rebuilding project...
Joe Girardi was supposedly the favorite for this job, but now it looks like Girardi may be on the outside looking in when the music stops and all the managerial openings are filled.
