Tuesday a.m. things

The Trey Hillman interview is today, with the Don Wakamatsu interview set for Wednesday.

My guess is that, by the end of the week, we'll know who the finalists are.

Kat O'Brien touches on the managerial hunt in an article today, in which she mentions the belief that is out there that Hillman and Wakamatsu are the frontrunners. There is also this interesting little item:

Several players have thrown their support behind Wakamatsu, though none publicly, as it could make things awkward if he is not hired.

The New York Daily News is reporting that Brian Cashman already has a deal in place to trade Gary Sheffield, but he is waiting to pull the trigger, in the hopes that the market will improve and he will get a better offer. The Daily News, though, suggests that a trade will occur by Sunday, the deadline for exercising the Sheffield option.

Carlos Lee and Vicente Padilla have filed for free agency, and Lee is supposedly on the radar for both the Detroit Tigers (who could reunite him with former ChiSox teammate Magglio Ordonez) and the Baltimore Orioles, although it still sounds like Houston is the favorite.
