Friday stuff

Okay, so what do we have out there today...

Kevin Sherrington has a column on the recruitment of Barry Zito, discussing how Jon Daniels needs to spin the offseason...

The New York Post says that the Mets trading for Akinori Otsuka is a "longshot," because the Rangers would want someone along the lines of Mike Pelfrey for Otsuka, and the Mets don't appear to want to pay that sort of price.

Vernon Wells is supposedly close to signing a 7 year, $126 million deal with the Blue Jays...I guess Wells and Michael Young won't be playing together after all...

Ken Rosenthal has some notes up, including an item about Mark Mulder, saying that the Rangers, D-Backs, Padres and Cards appear to be the most likely candidates to land Mulder, but that the Indians have been stressing the quality of their training staff (a big issue for a guy like Mulder, coming off an injury), and have been highlighting the guys they've brought in with injury problems who have stayed healthy.

The sports director of the Texarkana Gazette thinks the Rangers won't be any good in 2007, and that Jon Daniels hasn't done a good job as g.m.

Buster Olney says that if Brad Wilkerson had been non-tendered, the Yankees may have pursued him to play some first base.

Jeff Bagwell retired today. I thought he had retired months ago, but anyway...
