Thinking about Kevin Millwood

Kevin Millwood was signed a year ago this evening...

And it amusing, to me, that in the couple of days leading up to the deal, it sounded like things weren't going well.

And then, the Rangers got Millwood on a 5 year, $60 million deal (which is more like 4 years, $42 million with a $12 million vesting option for year five, given the deferred money).

I thought that was overpaying, at the time.

Then Gil Meche got 5 years, $55 million. Jeff Suppan got 4 years, $42 million. Vicente Padilla got 3 years, $34 million, with a 4th year, $12 million option. Adam Eaton got 3 years, $24 million. Ted Lilly got 4 years, $40 million.

Compare that to the 3 years, $34-37 million (depending on how you do the math) with the 4th year vesting option that Millwood has remaining on his contract...given the way this offseason has gone, Millwood is probably under contract for less than he could get if he had been a free agent this offseason.
