The St. Louis Cardinals have extended the contract of Chris Carpenter through 2011, with a club option for 2012.
$65 million for Carpenter, all told, with it going to $77 million if the Cards exercise the option.
Nice little payday, for a guy whose career was on life support a few years ago...

Carpenter was already under contract for next season for $7 million, and the Cards exercised their 2008 option for $9 million as part of this deal, meaning he gets $16 million the next two years (which was per his original contract), and then $49 million for the following three years, or $61 million for the following four years if the Cards exercise the 2012 option...
