Friday morning things

Some stuff from this morning...

Evan Grant has an article this morning on the Rangers' extensive talks with Jay Payton, Kenny Lofton and Barry Zito, along with the trade discussions the team has engaged in, but says that no moves appear imminent just yet.

Alfredo Simon, taken from the Rangers by the Orioles in the Rule 5 draft, has been traded by the Orioles to the Phillies for catcher Adam Donachie, whom the Phillies picked in the Rule 5 draft.

The Philadelphia News says the odd man out in the Phillies' rotation is likely Jon Lieber, and calls the Rangers an "obvious match", given the Rangers' surplus of relievers and need for a starter. The Philadelphia Inquirer lists the Rangers as a team that has expressed interest in Lieber, and reports that discussions involving a Lieber to Milwaukee deal (for Derrick Turnbow) appear to be dead.

The Rocky Mountain News says that the Rangers are expected to re-visit Jason Jennings trade discussions.
