Brooks Kieschnick retires

Brooks Kieschnick has announced his retirement...

He's an interesting story...he was at UT around the same time I was there, and was about as popular as a college baseball player can be in Austin.

The Cubs took him in the first round, #10 overall, in the 1993 draft, and for three straight years he was ranked as their #1 prospect by BA, but he never developed the power potential that made him so highly sought after in the draft.

And in recent years, of course, his claim to fame was that he was a two-way player, a 25th man who could be a pinch-hitter and a long reliever.
