You know how I've been pushing the Rangers to go after Brian Lawrence, particularly after the Nationals got him for the craptacular Vinny Castilla?
Well, nevermind...
An MRI on Lawrence's shoulder revealed a torn labrum, and he'll be out until at least mid-season, although for all intents and purposes he's probably done for the year.
Lawrence had gotten one of the Nationals' few green lights in Will Carroll's THR for Washington, and has always been durable, but the timing here is awful. Pitching in cavernous RFK, a solid 2006 season could have meant a big payday in the coming offseason for Lawrence, who is a free agent at the end of the season.
Instead, it looks like he'll be getting a make-good low base deal, or possibly even a minor league deal and NRI...
Too bad...
