A couple of things, none of which is likely to be controversial enough to start up another 100-post discussion thread...

The biggest story is Jon Daniels saying that he thinks the fifth starter for the Rangers is someone in camp:

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels believes this season's fifth starter is in camp with the club.

"That's the plan," Daniels said. "I'm impressed with the way the young guys have thrown in that spot."

Daniels did add that "if something was out there [to acquire], I'd consider it."

He didn't want to talk about the in-house candidates for the job and who he likes in that spot. But the likely names are Juan Dominguez, Edison Volquez, C.J. Wilson and R.A. Dickey - maybe in that order.

In that same DMN piece by Richard Durrett, we also learn that Josh Rupe had been hurting for a couple of weeks before he let the Rangers' medical staff know.

Dumb of Rupe not to say anything, but not real surprising, either, given his situation. He's a rookie trying to win a spot in the rotation, and his major competition is a guy who has been pilloried for not having the right attitude and work ethic. The last thing Rupe is going to want to do is go to the coaching staff and say he's hurting...it would jeopardize his chances of making the team and put him in a situation where his "face" maybe wouldn't be so good anymore.

Conversely, Francisco Cordero is feeling good enough that he may join the Dominican WBC team for the semis and the finals, if Damaso Marte's injury is going to keep him out.

Jan Hubbard has an item about R.A. Dickey thinking positive...I've got nothing, there...

Evan Grant will be doing a chat session at the DMN today at 1 p.m., which you can join by clicking here. He'll also be doing a chat session at the Newberg Report tomorrow...

Meanwhile, on the former Ranger front, Danny Kolb is having a difficult spring, having the same sort of command problems that plagued him last year...
