Buster Olney discusses teams that could be after Barry Bonds this offseason, and lists the Rangers as a possibility:
The Rangers could use Bonds' offense. They have a place available at DH, and owner Tom Hicks is impulsive.
After the p.r. fiasco that was the Kenny Rogers Experience, along with Chairgate a couple of years ago, I tend to think that Hicks would be leery of the negative buzz Bonds would create.
I can't see the Rangers being contenders for Bonds unless 1) Jason Botts absolutely tanks the rest of the year, or 2) Phil Nevin gets his act together and starts hitting, which leads the Rangers to deal Botts at the trade deadline this year.
Neither scenario is, I believe, likely...
