Baseball Prospectus's Week in Quotes has a bunch of funny Ozzie Guillen quotes, in the wake of the Sean Tracey fiasco, along with some stuff from Goose Gossage about hitting batters.
I think there's one particularly revealing quote from Ozzie in there, though, that I wanted to highlight:
"I play this game the way it should be played, I coached this game the way it should be coached and I manage this game the way people have to manage in this game."
If I can take a moment to play armchair shrink, I think this helps point out why Ozzie and Buck don't like each other.
Ozzie thinks that there is his way of playing the game -- which is the right way, they way it is supposed to be played -- and everything else is the wrong way.
And I think, ultimately, Buck believes the same thing -- that his (Buck's) way is the right way, and every other way of doing things is the wrong way.
And because they are both so confident in their own sense of rightness, I think they tend to find each other particularly distasteful. Ozzie doesn't like Buck because Ozzie is sure that his (Ozzie's) brand of baseball is the way it should be played, is the right way to play...and Buck offends him because Buck is just as sure that his (Buck's) brand of baseball is the way it should be played. And I think the opposite is probably true, as well.
