That makes sense...of the guys who are potential free agents -- GMJ, Adam Eaton, Vicente Padilla, Mark DeRosa, Rod Barajas, and Jerry Hairston, Jr. -- I don't see any of them as being the type of player you want to rush to lock up. Padilla and GMJ are the only ones I'd have much interest in bringing back next year.
Daniels offers this explanation:
"It's something we have considered internally, but we have not brought it up yet," Daniels said. "There's a fine line with the number of free agents we have, and it would be a sensitive time to approach it.
"We're trying to win, and we had good chemistry. We're concerned what would happen if we offer to talk to one guy and not another."
I'm not sure how much that really has to do with it...if one of those guys were a real priority, I have to think there'd be discussions. But I think the Rangers are okay with all of those guys walking after the season...
In other news, Sullivan says Marshall McDougall was released...he was hurt all this year, but it is still a little surprising that the Rangers would release him. I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up in San Diego, since he's another Fuson player, and probably could be a decent utility player in the majors.
Sullivan also reports that Josh Rupe has been activated from the 60 day d.l. and optioned to the minors. Jamey Newberg's new Going Deep column explains the nuances behind rehab assignments and when minor leaguers have to be activated from the disabled list when they are on rehab...
