What about the Rangers trying to trade for Jon Lieber from the Phillies?
Although he's having an awful year right now, his peripherals aren't terrible, and he's a ground ball pitcher. If my back-of-the-envelope calculations are right, he's owed a little over $3 million for the rest of this year, and is under contract for $7.5 million for 2007.
I wanted the Rangers to sign Lieber before last season, and would be interested in him now, assuming the cost isn't too prohibitive. The Phillies aren't likely to just give him away, but for a couple of middling prospects -- say, a Nick Masset and a Travis Metcalf -- you could maybe get something done.
