It is remarkable how much happier I am right now, because Hank Blalock blooped a single into centerfield, than I would have been if he had popped out or something.

And that makes me wonder how rational my feelings about sports really are. I'm a successful professional with a good job, a house (and a couple of mortgages), a wife and son...and yet, because some guy a decade younger than me got a hit today, thus giving the Rangers a win, I'm in a good mood, whereas if he hadn't (thus leading to a Rangers loss), I'd be pissed off.

Maybe I'll go re-read Fever Pitch, and see if I can figure out why this has such an effect on my psyche.
