Soriano trade update

Jayson Stark has a "market watch" piece up at ESPN, with Alfonso Soriano, of course, the number one story...

Of particular interest is this:

Williams, who didn't make himself available for comment to ESPN.com, also told at least one club (and the Chicago press corps) that Brandon McCarthy was "absolutely" not part of this trade. And Williams was equally adamant that blue-chip third-base prospect Josh Fields -- another player the Nationals have targeted -- also isn't going anyplace.

With Chris Young having been sent to Arizona last winter, takign McCarthy and Fields off the table doesn't leave a whole lot for the ChiSox to offer.

If this is true, then Williams is probably talking about something like Brian Anderson and maybe either Lance Broadway or Ryan Sweeney, as well. Stark says that the consensus is that McCarthy is too much to give up for Soriano...

Of course, let me go ahead and say this now so that no one will have to in the comments...

No one thought that the Nationals could get Kearns, Lopez and Wagner for their collection of spare parts, either...
