A simple question

I keep hearing people say that the Rangers now need to sign Carlos Lee to an extension.

Why?

He's 30 years old, has a career .284/.338/.494 line, and is a sub-par defensive outfielder.

He wants 5 years, $65 million, supposedly.

Why would you pay anything close to that much for him?

Don't get me wrong, I like the trade...but I'd rather see the Rangers let him walk and get the draft picks than commit Chan Ho dollars to him.
