Thursday morning things

Good win yesterday. I had a suspicion that the Rangers might show up yesterday, roll over and play dead, but that didn't happen. At 5.5 games back, I still think they are done, though...

Randy Galloway is back from vacation, and says he's not on the "Fire Buck" bandwagon, although he says he can understand why others are. He ultimately blames the problems in Texas on the owner and insufficient payroll, although there is this interesting bit on the Buck situation:

Just a guess, but the first guy to hit ink with a "Fire Buck" headline would probably receive more than a few approving yet discreet butt-pats from players in the clubhouse.

By now, they are probably sick of Buck.

But a long-standing personal Rule No. 1 in throwing around "Fire So-and-So" opinions is to always use an educated ear with listening to players. Consider the source.

Players have their agendas just like the rest of us. And in some cases are even more vindictive and self-serving than us media rodents.

Obviously, it's not going to be a happy clubhouse in Arlington starting tonight when the Rangers open a brief homestand against Seattle.

Galloway does say, though, that he's gotten a barrage of emails from Rangers fans asking why the media is "coddling" Buck, why he's getting a free ride...that, of course, is a question I've been asking for a while...

Kat O'Brien has a piece on Hank Blalock sitting against lefties, which features some mildly amusing Buck-unspeak...whatever his flaws, Buck has a knack for being able to give quotes without actually saying anything...

O'Brien also writes on the Rangers' need to amp up their performance at home...
