Nice win yesterday. The Rangers are now guaranteed at least a split with the Angles, and are 4-1 on this road trip.
The Rangers are also back in second place, albeit still 2.5 games back of Oakland, which beat Seattle last night.
Evan Grant says Brad Wilkerson will decide this weekend whether to have season-ending shoulder surgery now, rather than waiting until after the season. If he does it now, it puts the Rangers in a situation where Matt Stairs and Nelson Cruz would probably get more playing time than they otherwise would. But given how Wilkerson has struggled this year, going ahead and going under the knife now may be the best plan.
Grant also has some praise for Wes Littleton, Josh Rupe, and C.J. Wilson, the three rookies currently holding down the fort in the bullpen. Grant says that the Rangers wanted to add a veteran reliever after dealing Francisco Cordero, but couldn't find the right deal, putting them in a situation where they are looking to the young pitchers for contributions.
And in case you missed it, Bartolo Colon is likely out for the season with a partially torn rotator cuff. Big loss for the Angels, even though he hasn't been that effective for them this year...
