The Rangers have signed Edgardo Alfonzo.
Your reaction, like mine, was probably, "He's still playing?"
It is a minor league deal, and if he makes the team he gets $650,000.
He followed the Carlos Baerga career path...a really good second baseman at a young age, and then, at the point most players are hitting their peak, he fell off a cliff. And in fact, going and looking at the "most similar players" to Alfonzo, Baerga is the most similar to Alfonzo from ages 26 thru 30.
He just turned 34 in November, was out of the majors last year, and was terrible in 2006.
Not entirely sure what the point of this signing is.
