Saturday morning things

Lots of stuff on the Hamilton/Volquez trade out there this morning...

Evan Grant's story today includes some quotes from Jon Daniels about this filling both the need for a centerfielder and an impact bat...

It will be interesting to see how the lineup gets set up, particularly since the Rangers are now so lefty-heavy...I'm guessing we'll see it go Kinsler-Young-Hamilton-Bradley-Blalock at the top...

The take on the other side can be found in the Cincy Enquirer article and the Dayton Daily News, with the consensus being that Jay Bruce's development made Hamilton expendable.

Quite a few comments on the deal at the DMN blog, although I don't know if I'd read them unless you want to see a bunch of "Jon Daniels is a moron for trading pitching!!!" type stuff.

Red Reporter has lots of comments on the deal, as well, from Reds fans, who seem to have mixed views...

And the commenters at BTF seem to like the deal for Texas...

T.R. Sullivan has some ruminations on the deal, and on the 2008 Rangers, at his blog...

Anthony Andro in the S-T says the Rangers are looking at Jason Jennings and Bartolo Colon to fill out the rotation, and have signed Jason Ellison to a minor league deal. Ellison is a good defensive outfielder who can't really hit...he was with Seattle last year, and the move to bring up prospect Adam Jones led to some Mariner vets being upset that Ellison was getting shafted...
