Tuesday morning things

And the surge begins...the Rangers are now just 3 1/2 games out of third place in the A.L. West. Woo-hoo!!!

Great performance by the offense, and a great outing from Vicente Padilla. Jean-Jacques Taylor has a column up on Padilla, which basically says Padilla needs to pitch better, but it does include this interesting tidbit...coming into last night's game, the Rangers were 12-12 when Kevin Millwood, Robinson Tejeda, or Brandon McCarthy started a game, and 5-15 when anyone else started.

Although Padilla left the game early yesterday after getting hit on the hand, X-rays were negative and Ron Washington says Padilla will be ready to go for his next start.

Mike Heika has some notes on Frank Catalanotto's return, with Cat saying that he felt he was swinging the bat well in Oklahoma, and that he thinks he should be able to throw by this weekend. The bat looked a lot better yesterday than it did pre-injury, so hopefully he's back...

Also from Heika's notes, Bruce Chen and Miguel Ojeda have been placed on the AAA d.l., Chen with an elbow problem and Ojeda with a broken thumb. John Rheinecker has started a rehab assignment in AAA, and with Ojeda hurt, I think we may see the Rangers go ahead and put him on waivers, to clear a spot on the 40 man for Rheinecker (who needs to be activated from the 60 day d.l. at some point). Ojeda would, at this point, presumably be likely to clear waivers.

Dave Sessions has a piece on Ramon Vazquez taking advantage of his opportunity to play for the Rangers...
