Thursday a.m. stuff

One step forward, two steps back. What an ugly, ugly game yesterday. I have no idea what is going on with this rotation.

Evan Grant has a final rundown on Ranger draft stuff, saying that their first choice will likely be a high school pitcher, and will likely be a Boras client.

Kevin Sherrington has a draft piece up, as well.

Jim Reeves talks about recent draft failures of the Rangers, but ruins any credibility he might have with this line:

Last June they tabbed Kasey Kiker, a high school left-hander out of Alabama, with the 12th pick. Kiker was an inauspicious 0-7 with Class A Spokane in his first year as a pro.

Sigh.

Kasey Kiker had a 4.13 ERA as an 18 year old in a league filled with 21 and 22 year old guys who just finished 3 or 4 years of college.

He was 0-7 because he started 15 games, but never went deep enough into games (because of limits on his pitch counts) to go 5 innings.

To suggest that Kiker had an inauspicious debut is just flat wrong.
