T.R. Sullivan has lost it

So I'm reading T.R. Sullivan's Rangers mid-term report...

And I come across this blurb:

Club MVP: The Rangers were hoping for 20 home runs and 80 RBIs from Sosa. He should soar past both -- especially RBIs -- as he continues to demonstrate that he can still be a force in the middle of the lineup.

What the hell?

I generally like Sullivan's stuff, but this is one of the most ridiculous comments I've ever seen.

Sosa is a DH. He has no defensive value. So his only value is in his offense.

Sosa has a .249 EQA this season and a line of .245/.296/.451. So offensively, he has been pretty unsatisfactory.

And yet, Sullivan names him the team MVP, based on his freaking homer and RBI totals?

Sosa is not one of the 10 most valuable players on this team.

Michael Young is having a better year than Sosa. Kenny Lofton is having a better year than Sosa. Ian Kinsler is having a better year than Sosa. Mark Teixeira, Marlon Byrd, Brad Wilkerson, and everyone in the bullpen other than Scott Feldman are having better years than Sosa.

I don't get it. I would expect this sort of hyper-superficial analysis from Galloway or Floyd-Engel or Engel-Floyd or whatever her name is. I don't expect this from the writer for the Rangers website.

The only thing I can figure is that he meant it as a joke. Or else this is part of the Rangers' campaign to inflate Sosa's value.
