Independence Day things

So Brad Wilkerson suddenly has an OPS of 840. OBP needs to go up, but he's got time to do that before the deadline. He's hit 13 HR in 50 games, and he does offer some versatility defensively.

Gil Lebreton calls Eric Gagne the club's most tradeable commodity.

Todd Wills upddates the health of Akinori Otsuka and Mark Teixeira, and the news is generally good. I don't know what kind of deal the Rangers can get for Teixeira this summer, but I'd like to at least have him playing so that the option is there. Wills also mentions that the club has signed 3rd rounder Evan Reed, a college reliever who seemingly would start at Spokane, and 7th rounder Tim Smith, a college outfielder who we were able to watch in the college world series, among others. I'm a little anxious to see what both of these guys do. I like Smith's swing.

Drew Davison looks in on John Mayberry Jr. as he is off to a solid start for Frisco. Needless to say, Mayberry is outperforming my expectations for him so far in AA. Anyway, it's a good article, worth checking out.

On another minor league note, Davison also mentions that Cristian Santana has a broken thumb and will be out the usual 4-6 weeks.

And Jason Cole interviews Jason Botts on his slow start and amazing surge since. Good stuff there as well.

Happy July 4th to everyone!
