Saturday morning things

I've just come to accept the fact that the Rangers are going to get swept whenever they are in Anaheim. I figure it is easier that way.

Evan Grant says that the Rangers have started informal discussions with Rudy Jaramillo on a new contract. Jaramillo is the only coach whose deal runs out at the end of the season.

Also from Grant, Hank Blalock is expected to be activated from the d.l. today, and is available to pinch hit this weekend, but is at least 10 days away from being ready to play in the field. Edinson Volquez will also be activated, and will start tonight.

Sports Day picked its minor league player and pitcher of the year, with Chris Davis and Eric Hurley getting the nod. There are some quotes on Davis's progress in controlling the strike zone since moving up to AA, as he's cut down on his strikeouts and improved his walk total since joining Frisco, enhancing his prospect status. German Duran got the nod as the "surprise of the year."

Jean-Jacques Taylor has praise for the Rangers' decision to extend Jon Daniels and Ron Washington.
