Friday a.m. things

There's Jason Jennings stuff in the news today...Anthony Andro reports that Jennings expects to be healthy at the start of spring training, and that he will join Kevin Millwood, Vicente Padilla, and Brandon McCarthy in the rotation, with Kason Gabbard having the inside track on the #5 starter spot.

Evan Grant reports that Jon Daniels says he thinks the Rangers have 4 rotation slots locked up, and that the Rangers are counting on solid bounceback years from all four of those guys.

If Millwood, Padilla, Jennings and McCarthy all pitch like they did in 2006, this could be a playoff contender. If they all pitch like they did in 2007, we'll be seeing Eric Hurley pretty quickly, and probably quite a bit of Luis Mendoza, Armando Galarraga, and A.J. Murray in the rotation, as well.

T.R. Sullivan's Friday blogging includes numerous quotes from and tidbits about Jennings...

Grant has Kasey Kiker as the Rangers' #9 prospect, and has this encouraging bit on his velocity:

he compact lefty (5-10, 185) was in the high 80s and low 90s at the start of his time at Clinton, but did hit 97 before the end of the year.

I'd heard some complaints that his velocity dropped last year, but if Grant is right, it sounds like that drop was early in the season, and came back later on. I'll take that over the his velocity dropping over the course of the season...
