Goose Gossage says, in his day, you hated the players on the other team!
That's the way it was, and you liked it!
On the day before his induction into baseball's Hall of Fame, the 57-year-old Gossage criticized modern players for allowing their personal relationships to affect the competition on the field. He said there is too much "hugging and loving around the [batting] cage.''
It wasn't that way in his day."[Former White Sox manager] Chuck Tanner would grab you, slam you up against a locker and say, 'What are you doing talking to those guys?'." Gossage said. "'They aren't your friends. They're trying to take food off your table.' There was no fraternizing.''
